¡USAC: Santiago, Chile!

¡Hola a todos! Bienvenido a mi blog. Estoy emocionada para compartir mis experiencias en el extranjero contigo. I am Chloe and this is my first time participating in a study abroad program. It feels as though many moments in my life have lead up to this moment and now that it is here, I am beyond grateful and excited to share.
Así primero, un poco sobre mi programa: USAC Santiago de Chile. USAC stands for University Studies Abroad Consortium and is a nonprofit organization that strives to provide affordable global experiences for a wide-range of students. I discovered this program through Arizona State University that has sent several students through their programs in the past.
What interested me most was of course the location- but also the courses offered. Por ejemplo, Chiles Native Cultures & Languages, 20th Century Latin American Cinema, y Latin American Culture. The goal of USAC is to provide students with "opportunities and lessons that build interpersonal, time-management, problem-solving, and adaptability skills that will aid in your career development." (usac.edu)
It is now my fourth day in Santiago and boy has it been the most incredible four days! A huge part of this particular program is integrating students into the culture and the community. Many students live with Chilean host families to gain further insight into the typical Chilean ways of life. Further, there is a student collective through the partner university, Universidad de Andrés Bello, that aids in this process by communicating with us exchange students and showing us the around area. So far, it has been wonderful getting to know and chat with (in both Spanish and English) the local students.
Aside from this aspect, the rest is up to the students to create their dream experience! For me, this looks like exploring the city as much as possible, hiking in the Andes, finding the Salsa clubs and local dance scenes, eating food, and checking out the cultural events. This weekend is our first planned excursion as a group to
the coastal city of Valparaiso. I look forward to spending time on the beautiful beaches, touring the city, and of course getting to know my fellow peers more!
